Election Day
Today Election Day in the United States.
You may have noticed the extra energy in the air as people cast their votes in one of the most closely watched events of the year.
To some it’s an anxious energy, and understandably so.
As international students, you are part of a global academic community in the U.S., and while you may not be voting, you likely feel the importance and anticipation of this day.
Whether you’re new to the country or have been here a few years, it’s natural to wonder how the election could impact you. So let’s talk about it…
It’s no secret that U.S. elections can influence policy decisions that affect international students, from visa regulations and immigration policies to higher education funding and student work opportunities.
For many, the ‘Muslim bans’ of 2017 are fresh in their memory.
Some might equally be disappointed that the current adminsitration didn’t roll back RFEs, as many had hoped.
It’s important to remember that today’s vote, regardless of the outcome, is just the beginning of a new chapter. Policies don’t change overnight, and nobody can predict what policies may come, regardless of which party wins tonight.
It’s an unpredictable time, to put it bluntly.
And that’s why I’m here for you.
Remember why you came to the U.S. and the goals you set for yourself when you began this journey. Your academic path is within your control, and the skills you’re gaining will carry you far, no matter the policy environment. Don’t let uncertainty cloud your focus or distract from the hard work you’re putting into your studies.
In the days following the election, you may see different perspectives and emotions as people react to the results. No matter the outcome, know that you are part of an inclusive and supportive community here. (And if you’re not a part of The American Dream Society yet, now’s a great time to join a free community of even more support.)
We will continue to welcome you, support you, and celebrate the incredible diversity and talent that international students bring to our campuses and our country.
If you’re feeling uneasy or have specific questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

You CAN…
Live Your American Dream.
